Results of the inter-agency cooperation between the Research Directorates

An international scientific team found and collected two new species of beetles (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) in the Satipo Province, the department of Junín, in 2019.

This discovery emphasizes the significance of the fauna that exists in the country. These actions led to the collaboration between the Directorate of Scientific Research (NGO ACRENAP) which was authorized by a signed agreement of the board of the Avireri Vraem Biosphere Reserve, and the Institute of Systematics and Ecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This collaboration resulted in publications on new species. The article was published in Revista Peruana de Biologia, vol.26 no.4, Lima, Peru. The author is Andrei Legalov (Institute of Systematics and Ecology of Animals of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences). The new species were named in honor of biologist Alexander Sokolov (the member of our international scientific team who found this new species in nature) and Carolina Shaboo (the biologist from the USA), who had been publishing on Peruvian Invertebrate Fauna in the USA for many years.
